Womens Soccer cruises to victory

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer put together its largest margin of victory of the year, as the Hawks defeated Nichols College Tuesday afternoon by the score 8-0.

Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) scored the first two goals of the game, one in the 17th minute and the other in the 22nd to put RWU on the board first. Six minutes after Baldwin's second goal, Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) added another score over the keeper's head, putting the Hawks up by three going into the second half.

In the second period, the offensive attack continued, as Caitlin Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) beat the keeper to the right, knocking in her fifth goal of the year in the 60th minute. As the Hawks began to take out their regulars, some of the bench players contributed to the high-scoring affair, with Kristen O'Gorman (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Gina Pegoraro (Monson, Mass.), and Lauren Ferri (Northport, Mass.) each recording their first goal of the year. Mary daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) also notched her first score of the year, heading in the ball over the keeper's head in the 81st minute.

Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.), who started the game and played the first half, made one save and earned the win. Jenny Schermerhorn (Sherborn, Mass.) came on at the beginning of the second half and played the remainder of the game, making one save as well.

Reigning TCCC Rookie of the Week Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) made seven saves for Nichols in the loss. Teammate Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) played the second half in net, making seven saves for the Bison.

Roger Williams (5-2-0, 3-1-0) begins a five-game road trip, starting Saturday at Colby-Sawyer College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
